Whether your business relies on your API for revenue and brand awareness or your internal teams rely on it for their applications, it's important that consumers can rely on your API. API Readiness is more than just great design or clean code or efficient testing – it's a combination of things from design through production. In the talk, “API Readiness: Is Your API Ready for Primetime?” Lorinda explores the key aspects of API readiness and how to make sure your API is ready for all the people who depend on it.
In the API Lifecycle workshop, learn how to get the most out of your API in two hours with 3scale and SmartBear, including the essential phases of the API lifecycle with a particular focus on testing APIs and on securing and monitoring APIs via API Management. Instructors introduce the concepts as well as show practical tools and best practices. Pili Guerra and Manfred Bortenschlager go through the necessary steps to set up the infrastructure to secure and monitor traffic to your API with an API Gateway implemented using 3scale and NGINX. Lorinda Brandon and Renato de Athaydes show how to use API service descriptions to build your test skeleton and ensure adequate test coverage. They also walk through how to create an API sandbox to test an API while it's still in development.
Attendees will learn how to prototype securing an API with an API Gateway and 3scale, set up and configure NGINX to act as an API Gateway, configure API access policies and monitor usage, understand the value of service descriptions and use them to build your test skeleton and ensure adequate test coverage, create virtual services to test an API while it's still in development and use the virtual service to harden your application against API failures.
The workshop includes demonstrations of 3scale’s API Management platform and SmartBear’s Ready API, the first fully integrated, extensible and affordable platform to help development, testing and operations teams build reliable, scalable and secure APIs.
