Each year, nearly 200,000 service members transition out of the military and back to their civilian communities. While men and women of the armed forces are better trained, educated, and prepared for this transition, they still face unique challenges when establishing careers outside of the military. Available resources and recommendations from those who have successfully made the transition can be valuable.

Panelists will discuss what attracted them to the military, what was appealing about the tech industry, how their military background has aided their career, and what they wish they would have known prior to going into tech. They will also provide tips for other veterans looking to break into the tech industry. The session is moderated by Noel Wurst, Senior Manager, Communications at SmartBear.

Phil Voulgaris graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004, serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy for six years. After leaving the service, he obtained his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame. He has since been working in tech in a variety of marketing roles.

Crystal Farley is a U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant combat vet, entrepreneur, wife, mother, fitness fanatic, blogger, and a woman who hopes to change the world one person at a time. She is also the Chief Story Teller and creator of the successful Grace + Growth Podcast, formerly known as PTSD: People, Trauma, and Stress Discussed: an unfiltered truth.
