API Evangelist at SmartBear Invited to Deliver 2 Sessions at apidays Paris

Frank Kilcommins discusses revolutionizing API development with the Workflows Specification and elevating documentation with BDD at apidays Paris, December 6-8, 2023
PARIS and GALWAY, Ireland — November 29, 2023 —

Frank Kilcommins, Principal API Technical Evangelist at SmartBear, a leading provider of software development and visibility tools, is presenting two sessions at apidays Paris, taking place on Wednesday, December 6 – Friday, December 8, 2023. His first presentation, “The API Workflows Specification: The Missing Piece of the API Puzzle,” details using the API Workflows Specification to improve interoperability. His presentation, “Harnessing BDD Techniques like Example Mapping for Effective API Docs,” explores Behavioral-Driven Development (BDD) as an enabler for human-centered and agile API delivery.

WHAT: SmartBear’s Frank Kilcommins is presenting two sessions at apidays Paris 2023

WHEN: 1) “The API Workflows Specification: The Missing Piece of the API Puzzle”

Wednesday, December 6, 2023, 2:25 p.m.

2) “Harnessing BDD Techniques like Example Mapping for Effective API Docs”

Thursday, December 7, 2023, 2:05 p.m.

WHERE: CNIT (Center for New Industries and Technologies), 2, parvis de La Défense – 92800 Puteaux

Frank has over 15 years of experience in the technology industry, his roles spanning from software engineering to enterprise architecture. His mission is to inspire, engage with, and support the API community as well as SmartBear customers across the end-to-end API development lifecycle and management space. Prior to joining SmartBear, Frank’s most recent roles have been focused on API-led digital transformations and architecture modernization within multi-national enterprises.

In “The API Workflows Specification: The Missing Piece of the API Puzzle, attendees will learn about the API Workflows Specification, developed under the OpenAPI Initiative, which complements OpenAPI and AsyncAPI. By enabling the ability to define and document workflows, the API Workflows Specification is a series of API calls that together accomplish a specific business objective. This provides a deterministic recipe for using APIs and enables code generation tooling for a given API based on use-cases. Additionally, the specification improves regulatory checks and bridges gaps where use-case flows span multiple API definitions.

In “Harnessing BDD Techniques like Example Mapping for Effective API Docs,” Frank explores how humans effectively learn through examples, and the "Example Mapping" technique can aid and embed API governance into the human collaboration of a team or organization. Combining this with the power of API specifications (like OpenAPI) can take living documentation to a new level.

At the crossroads of technological brilliance and societal commitment, apidays Paris brings pioneers, thinkers, and industry stalwarts together to envision and architect a future.
