SmartBear, a leading provider of software development and quality tools, announced record growth in 2020 for its SwaggerHub API development platform as companies accelerated digital initiatives and fast-tracked API adoption due to the pandemic. In the 2020 State of API Report released by SmartBear in August, developers expressed a strong preference for SwaggerHub, the team-based, integrated API design and documentation platform built on OpenAPI/Swagger.

SwaggerHub is the integrated API development platform built for teams, from small development shops to large multinational enterprises, to drive standardization and secure collaboration throughout the API lifecycle. The industry’s leading API design and documentation platform marked numerous accomplishments this year. Early on, SwaggerHub was named a 2020 Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice for Full Life Cycle API Management. It also won the 2020 API Award for Best in API Infrastructure.

SmartBear also announced the integration of its API quality platform, ReadyAPI with SwaggerHub in October. Streamlining the process of logging into SwaggerHub from ReadyAPI and storing information for re-use when performing actions against SwaggerHub, the integration yields the most comprehensive, powerful API tooling for all stages of the API lifecycle.

Last month, SmartBear released SwaggerHub extension for Visual Studio (VS) Code, expanding the development options for API designers. It is now available in addition to SwaggerHub Code Editor, SwaggerHub Visual Editor, and SwaggerHub CLI Tool.

Globally, development teams use SwaggerHub to bring high quality applications to market faster, including more than 100,000 API practitioners in more than 40,000 organizations and 200,000 API projects. In addition, the Swagger/OpenAPI open source initiative, supported by SmartBear, also saw record growth in 2020. Average monthly downloads grew from approximately 300k per month in 2019 to 400k per month in 2020 and continues to climb.
