Collecting Per Participant Custom Review Data
(This blog entry is part of a series of entries describing some of the new features in Code Collaborator v6.0. The series content is listed in this entry.)
A key feature in any code review tool is the ability to customize the collected data. For example, a firmware development team might want to capture the board revision that a code review's changes are intended to support.
This is why Code Collaborator has always had support for collecting custom data fields - you can define the field(s) and have Code Collaborator keep track of the value(s) supplied. The fields can be collected per review and/or per defect.
With v6.0 of Code Collaborator we now support one more use case: collecting data for each participant in a review. So if you have administrator privileges, you will see a new entry on the left side of the administrative settings - Participant Custom Fields:
Participant custom fields can be added to a review template just like review custom fields and defect custom fields. I know of at least two use cases: recording time spent working on a review outside of Code Collaborator and surveying review participants to capture qualitative information about how the review went (e.g. "Did the author include all supporting documents (requirements, design, etc.) that you needed in order to complete the review?").
Participant custom fields are displayed in their own section of the Review Summary screen:
When you click the Edit link you get an opportunity to enter your value for each participant custom field:
This is our first pass at per-participant custom fields - we're interested in hearing comments. So if you have feedback, please leave a comment on this blog entry or our feedback forum.
