AI is accelerating how teams build and ship software, but validating quality is getting harder, not easier. More AI-generated code means more to test, more API drift to catch, and more documentation that falls behind. The work is growing faster than teams can keep up.

Earlier this year, we introduced our vision for application integrity: continuous, measurable assurance that your software just works as intended, with governance to operate at AI speed and scale. In tandem, SmartBear BearQ™ introduced SmartBear’s vision for agentic quality: intelligent AI teammates – the Explorer Agent, the QA Lead Agent, and the Tester Agent – designed to help teams keep pace with modern software delivery without sacrificing control or trust. Now we’re extending that vision across the SmartBear products teams already use every day.

SmartBear Agents are specialized AI teammates that will be embedded directly into SmartBear workflows, helping you accelerate testing and API quality tasks while keeping governance, auditability, and human control at the center. This next wave of capabilities will be designed to reduce manual effort, streamline repetitive work, and help teams move faster with greater confidence.

Here’s a first look at which agents are in development, and where you can see them in action.

Agents for Test

Software testing is evolving from manual scripting to intent‑driven automation that works alongside the tools and flows you have today.

Agentic test creation is now live in SmartBear Reflect, usable with your AI coding agents and directly within Reflect itself. This capability lets you describe what you want to validate, and the system handles the mechanics. Instead of hand‑authoring every click and assertion, you provide a natural language description or existing test case, and the agent translates that intent into executable end‑to‑end tests, allowing teams to focus on business outcomes. These generated tests adapt as applications evolve, reducing the maintenance burden that slows down scripted automation efforts.

Just as importantly, they remain connected to existing SmartBear Zephyr and SmartBear QMetry test management workflows, so execution, reporting, and traceability stay aligned across the broader quality process. This creates a single system of record for testing and quality.

SmartBear QMetry will also introduce new agentic capabilities designed to improve release intelligence and optimize testing workflows, further strengthening its role as a centralized system of record for testing and quality. The Release Readiness Advisor agent will turn the data teams already track into clear, actionable guidance, and the Test Suite Generator agent will help teams automatically identify and prioritize the most relevant tests.

These capabilities will help teams achieve more precise testing, stronger release confidence, and smarter use of existing test assets, while still staying fully in control of final decisions.

Agents for API

Agentic capabilities in SmartBear Swagger will focus on helping organizations scale governance and maintain accurate and up-to-date APIs, without adding operational overhead.

In Swagger Studio, a new Governance Agent helps teams align APIs with organizational standards, without forcing architects and platform teams to manually review and fix every API definition. Swagger Studio and Swagger Portal’s Portal Agent is designed to help close the gap between API definitions and consumer-facing documentation. As teams update API definitions, they can generate and publish updated documentation directly into their developer portals.

As APIs increasingly serve both human developers and AI-driven consumers, maintaining accurate, accessible, and trustworthy documentation becomes even more critical. These new capabilities help teams deliver API experiences that stay aligned as systems evolve.

What’s coming next

This is just the first wave of new agentic capabilities coming to SmartBear. SmartBear Agents will continue to expand across SmartBear’s Application Integrity Core™, helping teams automate more of the repetitive work required to deliver trusted software and application integrity in the age of AI-driven development.

Our focus goes beyond adding AI features to existing products. We’re building practical, governed agentic workflows that help organizations scale quality, improve consistency, and maintain confidence as software delivery accelerates at AI speed and scale.

To stay close to what’s next, get involved with SmartBear AI Labs to see these new capabilities in action and share feedback on how agents can best support your team.
