At SmartBear, we celebrate innovators in software testing who make a real impact on their teams. The Automation All-Star Award celebrates the pioneers using SmartBear Zephyr’s no-code automation to achieve transformative results. We’re thrilled to share the stories of this year’s winner, RAC Motoring Services, and our fantastic finalists: Capgemini, Infor PSSC, Pepper Money, and the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE). These teams have completely transformed their testing, empowered their teammates, and boosted their software delivery capabilities.

Winner: RAC Motoring Services

RAC Motoring Services, a leading provider of roadside assistance and automotive services, is a perfect example of how innovation can improve testing efficiency. Chris Lewis, Test Analyst at RAC, took the initiative to improve regression testing, and with minimal scripting knowledge, discovered Zephyr’s no-code automation – a real game-changer.

The Challenge: Before discovering Zephyr’s no-code automation, RAC’s regression testing was a manual slog, taking anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. This often led to delays and errors, especially with evolving software interfaces. Chris had tried plugins like Firefox’s Selenium and Katalon, but maintaining them became a headache, particularly with locator changes.

The Solution: Chris eagerly explored Zephyr’s AI-driven no-code automation. Once installed, he effortlessly built a regression suite that slashed testing time from 90 minutes to just 20 minutes! He also pointed out how quickly tests can be updated, ensuring consistency and better test coverage.

With Zephyr, I can watch tests in real-time and fix issues as they arise,” says Chris Lewis, Test Analyst at RAC. “It’s not just about saving time; it improves consistency in test coverage, which leads to better releases. It’s been a game-changer for me and the team.”

The results speak for themselves. The regression suite is now essential to RAC’s testing process, and other teams are starting to use the AI capabilities. Even better? Non-technical team members are getting involved in automation, boosting morale and creating a real sense of ownership.

Chris adds, “Our team has fully embraced this tool and is incredibly excited about what it can do. It’s so easy to use; even our non-technical colleagues are contributing to the automation process.  I’m confident we’ve only scratched the surface of what it can do.”

Finalist: Capgemini

Capgemini, a global consulting and technology leader, used Zephyr’s no-code automation to improve testing for a multinational fast-food chain’s restaurant operations. Sanket Krishna Pande, Test Automation Engineer at Capgemini, led the team in streamlining critical Point of Sale (POS) device testing.

The Challenge: Testing the fast-food chain’s POS systems, which handle huge transaction volumes, is complex. The team was manually testing order processing, payment integrations, and UI responsiveness – a slow and time-consuming process that often delayed releases.

The Solution: Capgemini implemented Zephyr’s no-code automation to automate end-to-end testing for POS workflows, including order placement and payment processing. This cut manual testing time by over 50% and improved test coverage across different devices and configurations.

“With Zephyr, we’ve cut manual testing time by more than 50%, which has sped up our release cycles,” says Sanket Krishna Pande, Test Automation Engineer at Capgemini. “Being able to trigger automated tests through our CI/CD pipeline ensures that critical features are validated in real-time, preventing defects from reaching restaurants.”

The team saw a huge improvement in the speed and accuracy of software updates, with automated tests validating new POS features like payment methods and loyalty programs. Collaboration also improved, with business analysts and restaurant operations experts contributing directly to testing.

Finalist: Infor PSSC

Infor PSSC, a cloud-based ERP solutions provider, used Zephyr’s no-code automation to streamline testing and improve team collaboration. Glenlie Maye Orillo, Quality Assurance Analyst at Infor, led the effort to integrate automated testing into the company’s CI/CD pipeline.

The Challenge: Manual testing, especially regression testing, was a major time sink, causing release delays. The company also needed more comprehensive test coverage to ensure high-quality releases as its product portfolio grew.

The Solution: Infor PSSC used Zephyr’s no-code automation to create efficient regression tests and increase test coverage. Team members with different technical skills could contribute to the automation process, cutting manual testing time by 60% and enabling faster test execution through parallel processing. CI/CD pipeline integration also sped up developer feedback.

“No-code automation has had a huge positive impact on our testing and productivity,” says Glenlie Maye Orillo, Quality Assurance Analyst at Infor. “We’ve reduced regression testing time by 60%, and our releases are more agile, allowing us to deliver updates faster and with higher quality.”

Empowering non-technical team members to contribute to test creation and maintenance improved collaboration and morale. The ability to quickly adapt tests to changing requirements without relying on developers provided greater flexibility and speed. Increased test coverage and automation integration also ensured better software quality and fewer post-release defects.

Finalist: Pepper Money

Pepper Money, an Australian financial services company, uses Zephyr’s no-code automation to streamline QA and improve teamwork. Aleah Farrah Mama-o, Test Automation Engineer at Pepper Money, explained how the company uses Zephyr in all testing phases.

The Challenge: Pepper Money’s QA team struggled with manually tracking and testing across multiple testing phases: system, integration, and regression.  This manual workload often caused delays and made it hard to meet deadlines.

The Solution: By fully using Zephyr, Pepper Money significantly reduced manual testing time.  The no-code platform allows non-technical team members to contribute directly to automation, improving collaboration and resource use, leading to more efficient workflows. “Zephyr has helped us reduce regression testing time by 50%, speeding up our releases and making it easier to deploy new features without sacrificing quality,” says Aleah Farrah

Mama-o, Test Automation Engineer at Pepper Money.  “The Jira integration has helped us centralize test case and execution tracking, improving visibility across projects.”

Using Zephyr allows team members across departments to contribute to testing, fostering greater collaboration.  Reduced manual effort frees up the technical team to focus on higher-priority tasks, improving resource allocation and productivity.

Finalist: Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE)

The Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a non-profit promoting sustainable energy solutions. Lee Yang, QA Engineer at CSE, led the adoption of Zephyr’s no-code automation to improve testing efficiency for various client projects.

The Challenge: CSE’s QA team struggled with manual testing, validating new product changes and ensuring functionality across frontend and backend systems.  Quick and thorough regression testing across multiple products and clients was a major challenge.

The Solution: CSE implemented Zephyr’s no-code automation to automate 90% of their regression testing, particularly for frontend verification. This streamlined the process and allowed the team to focus on backend verification and new client requests.

“With Zephyr’s no-code automation, we can ensure higher-quality work for existing clients while efficiently managing new client requirements,” says Lee Yang, QA Engineer at CSE. “This automation has given us the bandwidth to thoroughly explore backend changes while maintaining high frontend coverage.”

By automating key parts of their testing, the team can scale quickly while maintaining quality.  Easy collaboration with developers, product managers, and business analysts improves overall productivity, enabling the team to handle rapid changes and launch new products successfully.
