Frank Kilcommins to Present API Talks at DeveloperWeek as SmartBear API Hub Wins 2025 DEVIES Award

In “Intro to Contract Testing: Evolving APIs Safely,” Frank will introduce contract testing as a scalable solution for evolving APIs within modern microservices and modular API architectures. He’ll address challenges like managing dependencies, the pitfalls of end-to-end testing, and the rise of “zombie APIs.” Through practical examples, Frank will demonstrate how contract testing rebalances the testing pyramid, streamlines provider-consumer validation, and leverages OpenAPI artifacts to foster collaboration and innovation. Attendees will leave with actionable insights to simplify API testing and accelerate delivery. 

In “Describing API Workflows with Arazzo,” Frank will introduce Arazzo, the OpenAPI Initiative’s workflow specification designed to simplify multi-step API interactions. Walking attendees through its structure, he’ll showcase how it creates reusable, programmatically readable workflows. Through practical demonstrations, Frank will highlight AI-driven tools like Arazzo Specification GPT, hands-on editing with VSCode, and validation with Spectral, including custom rules to enforce team style guides. Attendees will get actionable techniques and tools to streamline API workflow documentation, enhance collaboration, and improve human and machine usability. 

Frank has over 15 years’ experience in the technology industry with roles spanning from software engineering to enterprise architecture. His mission is to inspire, engage with, and support the API community and SmartBear customers across the end-to-end API development lifecycle and management space. Frank is a board member of the OpenAPI Initiative and has spearheaded the new Arazzo Specification for API workflows.
