Code Review for a Good Cause – SmartBear Fights Bad Code for Charity

For seven days only, purchase seven licenses of CodeReviewer for just $7 each – all proceeds donated to charity
Beverly, Mass. — November 06, 2011 —

SmartBear Software today announced the kickoff of its Fight Bad Code campaign, a weeklong program that will support three great causes. From Nov. 7 through Nov. 14, SmartBear is offering seven user licenses of CodeReviewer, the company’s lightweight peer code review tool, for just $7 each, a 97.5 percent cost-savings from the original price. One hundred percent of the purchase proceeds will be divided equally and donated to Conservation International, The Humane Society of the United States, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

During the seven day campaign, seven lifetime user licenses of CodeReviewer will be available for just $49. That’s $7 per license— a huge savings off the typical $289 cost per license. The deal also includes one year of SmartBear maintenance and support.

James Wang, Vice President, Peer Review Solutions for SmartBear, said, "At SmartBear, we are dedicated to improving software quality at every stage of the development cycle, and we believe that a simple, seamless code review process is the first step in effectively building high quality applications. Through this Fight Bad Code campaign, we want to give developers the opportunity to automate and expedite their code review process, at an unbeatable price, while supporting these deserving charities. We are honored to be able to use our tools to give back to such worthy causes."

CodeReviewer is a Web-based tool designed for smaller development teams with simple peer code review needs that want the advantages of an automated peer review process. Lightweight code review improves code quality and reduces defects while alleviating the pain of formal code review meetings or code inspections.

CodeReviewer makes collaborative code review fast and easy:

  • Track defects during review
  • Review code before or after check-in to version control
  • Subscribe to changes made to certain files or by certain authors
  • Use an Eclipse plug-in and Visual Studio add-in
  • Customize reports
  • Support for multiple version control systems: CVS, Git, Mercurial, Perforce, Subversion, Vault

For larger development teams, SmartBear offers CodeCollaborator, its enterprise-level peer code review tool, which provides integration into 16 version control systems, and includes product/group-based workflows, customization of fields and metrics, enhanced security, LDAP/ActiveDirectory integration, and more.
