New Set of Swagger 2.0 Tools Enhance Onboarding Experience for New Users While Seasoned Swagger Adopters Leverage All 2.0 Specification Features
Somerville, MA — June 10, 2015 —
, a leader in software quality tools for the connected world, has released an update to the core suite of open source tools for Swagger
that delivers broad support for the latest Swagger 2.0 Specification. Earlier this year, SmartBear acquired the Swagger API open source project, the leading API description format used by developers in almost every modern programming language and deployment environment to design and deliver APIs that fuel IoT, microservices and mobile applications in the connected world.
“Thanks to contributions from community members and SmartBear’s investment in a dedicated development team for Swagger, we are thrilled to release an official set of the core Swagger tools in line with the 2.0 version of the Swagger Specification,” said Ole Lensmar
, CTO at SmartBear. “This release greatly improves the Swagger onboarding experience for new users to the Swagger ecosystem, as well as it provides experienced Swagger users with tools to adopt the 2.0 Specification in their API development and production workflows.”
Key enhancements to the tools include automatic conversion from older versions to the 2.0 version to ease migration for existing users, broadened language support to improve Swaggers availability on both legacy and contemporary technical platforms, a smaller footprint of the core code libraries to make integration in enterprise systems more feasible and online versions of the core validation and code-generation tools.
“We're very happy to be able to contribute to the open source efforts to produce Swagger 2.0 compliant tools and software,” said Ed Anuff
, VP of Product Strategy at Apigee
, who has in alignment with this release contributed a new open source framework for developing Swagger 2.0 compliant APIs with node.js. “The adoption of Swagger has been nothing short of phenomenal and giving developers robust tools which are certified to be compliant with the latest Swagger specification is critical to the continued success of the effort.”
“The Azure App Service team chose Swagger 2.0 to describe the REST APIs being built by Azure API Marketplace partners in our API and Logic Apps offerings, enabling our customers with automatic REST API client code generation tools in Visual Studio to easily consume their REST API endpoints,” said Brady Gaster
, Program Manager at Microsoft Corp. “But we didn’t stop there; internal teams are beginning to use Swagger metadata to generate their own Azure client libraries, resulting in a more rapid release cadence for Azure client libraries and command-line tools. Swagger has streamlined Azure’s internal development and testing processes and made our customers’ development experience better.”
