SmartBear Receives Highest Ranking for Open Source-based Testing Acceleration in Gartner's 2018 Critical Capabilities for Software Test Automation
SOMERVILLE, Mass. — April 03, 2018 —
SmartBear, the leader in software quality tools for teams, received the highest ranking for open source-based testing acceleration in the 2018 Critical Capabilities for Software Test Automation published by Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company. SmartBear has demonstrated a strong commitment to open source projects such as Selenium, OpenAPI Specification (OAS), Swagger tools, and SoapUI, resulting in SmartBear receiving the highest score. Open source-based testing acceleration is a new use case in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities for Software Test Automation, which the company feels is recognition that QA teams are increasingly using open source tools and frameworks.
As the company behind Swagger and SoapUI, SmartBear supports a community where someone downloads one of the company’s tools almost every second. In addition to founding and contributing to several major open source projects, SmartBear has donated the Swagger Specification to the Linux Foundation (renamed as OpenAPI Specification) to ensure it remains a vendor-neutral open standard.
To enable teams to maximize the value from their open source assets, SmartBear has built support for open source into its commercial tools. For example, teams can build on top of their open source projects, converting SoapUI scripts to build more advanced functional tests, load tests, or create virtualizations in ServiceV Pro. With CrossBrowserTesting, teams can instantly run Selenium tests on over 1,500 real devices and browsers in the cloud. With AlertSite synthetic monitoring, teams can instantly create monitors using their Selenium, OpenAPI Specification, Swagger, or SoapUI scripts. With TestComplete, an automated UI testing tool, teams can execute their functional UI tests or copy and paste parts of Selenium or SoapUI tests to address all their automated testing needs.
Scot Hastings, CIO, Bonotel Exclusive Travel, describes how he has accelerated his API delivery by switching to SwaggerHub. “We have standardized on the OpenAPI Specification to connect a lot of APIs that integrate the various components of our distributed infrastructure together, but we had challenges scaling our API development across our internal and external teams. SwaggerHub drastically improves communication on API development between our internal team and external partners and gives us the ability to design and develop OpenAPI Specification-based RESTful APIs faster, so we can go to market with new services and service updates sooner.”
Supporting and contributing to open source projects is part of the DNA at SmartBear. “SmartBear is a big believer in the benefits of leveraging open source,” said Christian Wright, EVP and GM, API Business at SmartBear. “We believe our position in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities for Software Test Automation speaks volumes to our ability to empower software development and testing teams to maximize the value of using open source tools, while also taking advantage of governance, collaboration, and reuse that is ingrained throughout all our products.”
