TechNip Reduces Regression Testing Time by 300% Using TestComplete
Test and Monitor | Posted April 07, 2017

Technip, who recently merged with FMC Technologies, is a world leader in project management, engineering, and construction for the energy industry. With 38,000 employees, the company develops multiple internal applications to support these three critical functions. In addition, their apps provide services, like human resources, to their 38,000 employees.

"We develop multiple applications supporting each of our key disciplines, and the size of those applications has grown so large that we can no longer test them manually," says Muhammad Mazhar Mahmood, a Software Testing Manager for Technip. "We thus needed an automated testing solution to help us make sure all of our applications continuously remain stable—before deployment into the production environment."

As Technip began the search for an application testing solution, they hoped to find an easy-to-use tool that supported the development technologies the company relied on (SharePoint, .NET, Java, Oracle, etc.). Most importantly, Technip needed to find a more efficient way to do regression testing.

“Previously, we found regression testing to be painful,” Mahmood adds. “We often need to test complete applications. This is not possible in a short amount of time, so we preferred to automate the regression testing process. We also needed an easier way to conduct server sanity tests to make sure each application runs properly.”

Since TestNip turned to TestComplete, a tool that helps you create robust automated UI tests, the time it took to run regression tests dropped from 12 days to 4 days.

"Regression testing is now much easier," Mahmood added. "For Agile projects in particular, we can automatically test features that have already been developed instead of working our way through manual testing."

In addition, TechNip also uses SmartBear's QAComplete to ensure complete test coverage through every stage of their software development process, and LoadUI Pro, for API load testing.
