Cyber Monday: It's the Super Bowl of the sysadmin profession. On this day, a constant stampede of online shoppers will bombard eCommerce sites across the world. It's inevitable that some issues will arise with the most visited sites on the Web. It's also inevitable that there will also be some amazing success stories from sites that withstood thousands of pings a second without so much as a hiccup.
But none of that should really matter to you. Seriously, what do you care if Amazon successfully handled 400 purchases a second? What you need to be concerned about between now and the holiday season is your own website. Is it really ready to withstand a surge in traffic? How much of a spike could it handle until it falls over? Have you somehow overlooked a crucial flaw that could cost your company revenue?
