’Tis the season! This month, over 100 SmartBear employees in Somerville once again took part in the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps “Winter Wish” gift donation drive. The RFK Action Corps works with at-risk youths and their families on a number of emotional and behavioral issues with the end goal of helping them grow into productive members in their communities.
This marks the 6th year we’ve worked with this amazing group! The first year we participated, RFK Children’s Action Corps provided us with 40 wishes (gift requests) to grant. It was amazing to see how excited fellow SmartBears were to participate in this program. We ended up providing well over the 40 requested wishes because people kept bringing in gifts even after everything was accounted for. This year, we knocked it out of the park yet again, with over 120 wishes granted!
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some children enrolled in the RFK programs over the years and let me tell you, it absolutely reaffirms why we’ve continued to participate in this program. It’s quite humbling when you speak with these kids because they have zero expectations around the holidays. Gift requests range from video games and portable DVD players all the way to warm hats and gloves. I think I can speak for everyone at SmartBear in saying this really puts things into perspective, and makes us all appreciative for our good fortune and our ability to give back.
With the holidays in full swing, I hope everyone who’s able takes the opportunity to donate, a gift or their time, to help those in need. When times are tough, it’s nice to know someone is thinking of you.
