A Day in the Life: Corporate Communications Marketing Specialist
  Oktober 12, 2017

I’m Caroline Ambros, and I joined the Corporate Communications team in our Boston office about 4 months ago. This is my first job out of college, and every day at SmartBear brings a new challenge.

In Corporate Communications, we work on things like social media management, media relations, PR, internal communications and more. It’s a unique role because while most marketing positions focus on one or several of our products, we approach SmartBear more holistically. The best thing about my job is that I get to work with almost everyone in the marketing department, and lots of people in other functional areas, too.

Last Friday I had the honor of taking over our Instagram account to give our followers a glimpse of what life at SmartBear is like. Take a look below to see what my average Friday is like!

I like to start my day with a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats from our cereal bar. Free food seems to be everywhere in our Boston office. If cereal isn’t your thing, we get deliveries of fresh fruit regularly and a subscription to the LeanBox, our health food vending machine. It’s rare that I am ever hungry here.

While I eat my cereal, I check for customer comments online. All sorts of people reach out to us on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin to ask us questions, and I get them answered. After that, you can find me writing a blog post, updating our company profiles, or looking at data from our social media accounts.

Every Friday at 11 the design team meets for their weekly “ArtBears” meeting to review their work from the week. Although I’m not a formal member of the creative team, I do make graphics for our social media accounts. This has given me an honorary ArtBears membership, and a ticket to the weekly meetings. I love getting a sneak peak into what they’ve come up with!

After ArtBears, we head to the kitchen to get in line for Free Lunch Friday. Our office manager orders something different every week, and you have to get in line early to make sure you don’t miss out on the good stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that SmartBears like to eat lunch together. Work is much more fun when everyone genuinely enjoys spending time together!

Although working through my afternoon food coma can be tough, it’s social media scheduling time after lunch. I try to schedule Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn posts for as many days of the following week as possible before I head out for the weekend.

Tony C’s Sports Bar is a fixture for most people who work in our Boston office. Every Friday, a group of SmartBears from all over the office head to the bar down the stairs from the office to celebrate the weekend. Tony C’s is fun no matter how long you have worked here, but it’s especially great as a new hire. It’s the best way to make new friends!

That’s a wrap on my average day in my #LifeatSB! If you think this sounds like you, you’re in luck. We’re hiring for all sorts of positions here in Boston, and in other offices, too!
