TestComplete’s Object Browser is your main tool for exploring the application under test, as well as other processes running in the system. It displays the hierarchy tree of processes running on the local computer. It also displays the properties, fields, methods and events of the selected object — those provided by TestComplete as well as the “native” members. Everything that you see in the Object Browser, you can access and use in your automated tests.

Testers use the Object Browser to:

• Orient themselves with the object hierarchy of the application under test.
• Explore object properties, fields, methods and events, learn their parameters and view their syntax.
• Store snapshots of your tested application’s object structure and analyze it “offline”.
• View and modify values of object properties and fields in real-time mode.
• Copy property, method, field and event names and values to the clipboard and then paste them into tests, eliminating typos.
• Select objects in the tested application on screen and identify the corresponding test objects in the Object Browser.
• Highlight a test object selected in the Object Browser on screen in order to easily identify it in the tested application.
• Store baseline copies of objects in the repository for verifying the applications behavior.
• Capture images of windows, controls and any onscreen objects and store them for use in image checkpoints.
• View various system information, such as CPUs, memory usage, domain name and current user name, operating system version and much more.
• View process information, such as path, version number, memory usage, thread and handle count and more.
• Explore interfaces of COM objects (for example, Word.Application or WScript.Shell).
