In an automated build environment, it is essential that the development team is continuously informed about the builds’ status. This helps to ensure that the problems, if any, are fixed as soon as possible. For example, when developers are notified of broken builds immediately, it takes them less time and effort to fix the broken code.

Automated Build Studio provides two ways for sending build notifications:

• Automated Build Studio Server can send notifications automatically each time the build status is changed. You can enable this functionality for individual build macros, specify the users and user groups to be notified, the build events that notifies each recipient and the notification medium to be used for each recipient (e-mail, MSN or ICQ):
  

  

• Build macros created with Automated Build Studio can use special operations to inform users about the build status via:
  • E-mail message (the Send E-mail operation),
  • Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger message (the Send Message via Windows Messenger operation),
  • ICQ message (the Send Message via ICQ operation),
  • Newsgroup message (the Send News Message operation),
• External programs, such as net send (Automated Build Studio can run these programs via the Execute Program or Execute DOS Command operation).

  

  Just insert the needed operations in the appropriate places of your build macros like, in the beginning, the end or into a group or submacro that runs when build errors occur. You can even attach build logs to your e-mail and news messages in order to make notifications more informative.
